I managed to get it working with PCMCIA USB expansion card for a couple of months before it died completely. My personal stats: I have a dead Toshiba satellite laptop of 2007, it started out with USB not working despite the controllers being listed in device manager as correctly installed and functioning. For extreme optimism, replacing the chipset could fix it (see what I mean with "agonizing"?). Click to expand.I would hate to suggest you acquire a PCI USB expansion card only for it to fail to work, and even if it did, this problem looks a lot like a failing chipset, so there's no telling what will fail next or for how long you'll manage to squeeze more service life out of the board.
